Elder Entertainment
by Scott Bejda
Spice 1 is someone I have been listening to since the Let It Be Known EP in 1991 and lyrically he never disappoints. He is one of the dopest MC’s of all time. This follow up to his last release, on Elder Entertainment is Executive Produced by Ryan Elder, and I got this CD, it doesn’t give much on who the production is done by but as far as the features this is amazing. I mean he’s got DJ Premier on one track as far as production but as far as features goes he’s got Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, K-Rino, Treach from Naughty By Nature, Conway the Machine, MC Eiht, Devin the Dude, Tela, his partner that he puts out Q Bosalini and he also has Bushwick Bill on a song called “Come Out With Me.” This is one of Bushwick’s last appearances. He also has a track with Lil Flip and Paul Wall. He’s got King Crooked, B-Legit, Domino, Hussein Fatal, C-Bo, Mac, Fiend, Mr. Serv-On, the list goes on and on. Some of the tracks that really stand out for me was of course “Gangster Shit” with Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross and Q Bosalin. I love “Deuces In the Sky” with MC Eiht and Worldwide from San Antonio. Of course “Not Easy” with Devin the Dude, Nawfside and Lee Royal. This thing is full of songs I want to say about 18 tracks. I didn’t have to skip hardly anything but also another dope feature on this album is there is a series of skits by Sway who is a legendary music journalist and radio host from the Bay Area and basically on these skits he speaks on the legacy of Spice 1 and what he has contributed to the game. Very worthy follow up to the Platinum OG CD. I think it’s even better than the first one and I love the album cover. The album cover is the classic picture of 2 Pac being carried out on a stretcher after being shot outside of the studio where he is giving the middle finger to the camera. Classic picture of 2 Pac and Spice 1 is always going to pay homage to his fallen comrade. Definitely a worthy project, make sure you get it.
