Known globally as Cold 187um, Gregory “Big Hutch” Hutchison is not just a rapper and producer he is a founding architect of the West Coast sound. As the creative mastermind behind the legendary Pomona group Above the Law, Hutch reshaped hip-hop by fusing raw street storytelling, live instrumentation, soulful melodies, and cinematic production into the influential formula that would define a generation.
Signed to Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records in the late ’80s, Above the Law dropped groundbreaking albums like ‘Livin’ Like Hustlers’ (1990) and ‘Uncle Sam’s Curse’ (1994), pioneering the sound that would become known worldwide as G-Funk. While mainstream history points elsewhere, true hip-hop heads know Cold 187um’s fingerprint is on the very foundation. His production resume includes iconic work for Eazy-E, Snoop Dogg, MC Ren, Kokane, and E-40.
But Big Hutch never stopped evolving. Following his solo catalog, including ‘The Black Godfather,’ he has continued to push the culture forward in music and television.
