I was super excited to see that King JC was back with his long awaited solo album. What’s awesome to me about King JC is when I arrived at Murder Dog back in 1998, he was already there doing album reviews with the likes of Al Kapone. He is a Memphis veteran of the local tape scene who’s been putting out tapes for over 30 years. He stopped putting out music, for a long time he was focusing on other things but recently came back and this project is like he started right where he left off. One of the dope things about King JC is he doesn’t swear on any of his albums. He said he could paint more descriptive words rather than just using cuss words and I always respected that because it’s hard to do with gangster rap. One of the dope songs on here of course is “Memphis.” He definitely represents where he is from. He also did the sixth installment to “The Boogyman.” “The Boogeyman Part 6.” Those that have followed King JC over the years knows that that is a big track that he likes to revisit. Another one he did was “The King is Back,” and then of course I like the one called “When It’s Time To Go.” He produced this whole thing, he is a very dope producer. If you like that old school Memphis style rapid flows, real dark, sinister beats, this is right up your alley. And King JC is a master at what he has done. I’m so glad that he is back and we can look forward to much more music coming from him in the future. He told me he is already working on #19 and #20. So glad to see he’s back.
